Alta Ruth Teeter, 91, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Adams Woodcrest. She was born in Pleasant Mills, IN, on March 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Clyde C. and Janice (Smith) Jones. On October 15, 1977, she married Harold E. “Hal” Teeter and he preceded her in death on February 3, 2001.
She was a 1949 graduate of Pleasant Mills High School and then went on to serve her country in the U.S. Army. She worked for G.E. in Decatur for 35 years and retired in 1989.
Alta Ruth was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a member of the Women of St. Mary. She was a deeply religious woman and took her Catholic faith very seriously. She helped with R.C.I.A. at St. Mary’s and treasured her long friendship with Sr. Margaret Rose Donnelly. She was a socialite and loved being around people.
She was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club. She was also a member of the American Legion Adams Post 43 and along with her late husband was a member of the Confederate Air Force.
Alta Ruth is survived by her daughter, Karen K. Zoss of Battle Creek, MI; 2 step sons, Donald E. Teeter of FL and R. Jay (Lynne) Teeter of Decatur; a daughter-in-law, Nancy D. Teeter of Decatur; 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her step son James K. Teeter; 2 brothers, Miles C. Jones and Robert A. Jones; 2 sisters, Mary V. Wells and Ellen A. Mosier.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 4:30 p.m.
A Prayer Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with visitation a ½ hour prior from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be offered at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father David Ruppert presiding.
Burial will follow immediately in the Decatur Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or Masses.
