Anthony C. Gillig, 85, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at his residence. He was born on September 8, 1939, in Decatur, IN, the son of the late Leo T. and Florence L. (Kohne) Gillig. On January 12, 1965, he married Ruth A. Braun.
He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a 1957 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and he and his wife co-managed the Thrift Store in Decatur for many years.
Tony served his country in the U.S. Army. For over 30 years he worked for B.F. Goodrich until he retired. He enjoyed being outside and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth A. Gillig of Decatur; 3 children, Jim (Toni) Gillig of Indianapolis, Mike (Peggy) Gillig of Carmel, and Patty (Colin) Johnson of Monroe; 3 brothers, David Gillig, Donald Gillig, and Gerald Gillig; sister, Marcella Smith; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John Gillig and Albert Gillig and a sister, Rosemary Sheley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Jacob Runyon presiding.
A reciting of the Holy Rosary will be held prior to Mass at 11:00 a.m. and visitation to follow from 11:20 a.m.– 12:00 p.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall.
Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with Military Honors rendered by the American Legion Adams Post 43 Color Guard.
Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
