Arthur L. Ehinger, 88, of Decatur, In, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at North Woods Village in Ft. Wayne. He was born in Huntington, IN, on June 13, 1935, the son of the late Eugene and Helen (Himbert) Ehinger. He married Carolyn E. Simon on June 11, 1955, and she preceded him in death on February 21, 2012.
He was an active parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and had been involved with the Building On Our Heritage gym and parish hall projects. He was a man of faith and was devoted to daily Mass and reciting the Rosary.
Art worked in civil engineering for over 50 years and retired from Bonar & Associates, he continued to work most recently with the City of Huntington and later in consulting.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, restoring antique cars, and photography. He liked music especially barbershop quartet and playing the banjo and ukulele.
He is survived by 6 children, James (Tami) Ehinger of Springville, IN, Renee Eisenhauer of Huntington, IN, Charles (Kelly) Ehinger, Kathleen (Rob) Durbin, Marta (Doug) Gilbert, and Amy Ream; daughter-in-law, Anne Ehinger all of Decatur, IN; 2 sisters, Delores Lambros of AZ and Rita Bickel of Huntington, IN; 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Perry Ehinger and Barry Ehinger; a son-in-law, Joe Eisenhauer; brothers, Paul, Richard, and Edwin Ehinger; sister, Eileen Carmichael.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 12:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior in the Parish Hall from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Father David Ruppert will be presiding and burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
