Bernard W. “Bun” Meyer, 100, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Adams Memorial Hospital. Bun was born in Decatur on March 24, 1924 to the late William E. and Ina Mae (Rabbitt) Meyer. Bun married his first wife Lois Anne Eady on June 15, 1947, she preceded him in death in 1955, along with their infant son Bruce Daniel Meyer. On June 7, 1958, Bun married his 2nd wife Josephine Z. Sprunger, she preceded him in death in 1977. Bun married Helen (Mowery) Myers on July 28, 1990; she survives.
Bun spent his entire career repairing and painting cars in the same shop on 1st street. First as an employee for his father, as an owner with his twin brothers and finally with his son David. Bun’s only break from the shop was when all three brothers enlisted to fight for their country in the US Army in WWII -with Bun participating in the D-Day Invasion. Bun always felt it was an honor serving his country.
Bun is survived by his wife, Helen J. Meyer of Decatur; 2 step-sons, Mark (Heidi) Myers of Woodstock, GA and Ned Myers of Decatur; a step-daughter, Dianna (Wayne) Neukom of Ft. Wayne; 4 grandsons, Paul (Jaci) Myers, Joe (Alicia) Neukom, Sam (Alexandra) Neukom, Matt Neukom, 3 granddaughters, Olivia Myers, Brooke Myers, Gwen Myers and 3 great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his son Bruce Daniel Meyer, died in child birth, son, David W. Meyer, twin brothers, Robert H. and Richard C. Meyer; sister, Mary M. (Noble) Earhart.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024 at the Decatur Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
