Carolyn Sue Ballard, 86, of Decatur, formerly of Marion, IN, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital. She was born in Marion, IN, on July 5, 1938, the daughter of the late Robert W. and Roselin I. (Sample) Bevan. She married Cloyce E. Ballard and after 30 years together, he preceded her in death on November 29, 1991.
Sue was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Marion. Carolyn worked at RCA Thomson in Marion for 39 years. She then was the owner and operator of The Long Branch Tavern in Swayzee for a decade.
She is survived by her son, Steve Spencer of Marion; her daughter, Debra Spencer of Decatur; a step-daughter, Susie Ford; a brother, James W. (Martha) Bevan of Marion; 7 grandchildren, Nikkole Wright, Jason Spencer, Holly (Eric) LeMaster, Dana Geletka (John Green), Ryan (Krista) Spencer, Yvette Spencer, Jennifer Spencer; 15 great grandchildren.
Sue was also preceded in death by her 2 sons, Rick Spencer and Jeff Spencer; 2 grandchildren, Stephen L. Spencer and Tarra Rose Spencer; a brother, Robert A. Bevan.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with visitation prior from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Pastor Brent Doster will be officiating and burial will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Tunnel to Towers or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
