Catherine M. (Schnepp) McHugh

Catherine M. McHugh, 82, of Decatur, IN passed away at her residence on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Catherine was born on January 14, 1943, in Decatur, IN to the late Karl W. and Mary H. (Gase) Schnepp. She married James T. McHugh on September 9, 1961.

She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a 1961 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. She was also a member of the Adams Moose Lodge 1311.

Cathy worked at Gerber’s Grocery Store and Borden’s in Van Wert. She was Deli Manager at Scott’s and was also a lunch lady at St. Joseph Catholic School. For many years she ran a babysitting business out of her home.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James T. McHugh of Decatur; her son, Shawn S. (Tracey) McHugh of Decatur, her daughter, Shanda R. Hirschy (significant other, Dalynn Schnipke), a son-in-law, Joseph G. Wyss; her brother, Ronald E. (Rose) Schnepp of Decatur; a sister, Patricia R. Brewer of Decatur; a sister-in-law, Raydean Schnepp; 7 grandchildren, Christina Hook, Megan McHugh, Brandon Hirschy, Ashlyn Hirschy, Sophia Shaffer, Travis Wyss, and Michela Wyss; 3 great grandchildren, Jovan Martinez, Caden Wilhelm and Kyler Wilhelm.

Catherine was preceded in death by her son, Eric W. McHugh, in infancy, her daughter, Lucinda K. “Cindy” Wyss; a brother, James K. Schnepp.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father David Ruppert and Father Stephen Colchin will be concelebrating. Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.  

Preferred memorials are to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
