Cathleen E. (Swegan) Kiess

Cathleen E. Kiess, 72, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Adams Memorial Hospital. Cathleen was born in Youngstown, Ohio on November 24, 1949, to the late Alvin J. Swegan Sr. and Dorothy J. (Blue) Swegan. On June 1, 2016, Cathleen married Ronald J. Kiess.

Cathleen attended Lighthouse Assembly of God. She served as a missionary for several months over many years in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Romania. She was a 1968 graduate of John Glen High School in Walkerton, IN and then graduated with a degree in Nursing from Southwestern Michigan in Dowagiac, MI. Cathleen worked as a registered nurse at Madison Center Psychiatric Hospital for 5 years in South Bend, IN.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald J. Kiess of Decatur; son, Jeremy A. Perman of Siloam Spring, AK; 2 stepsons, Eric E. (Chris) Kiess of Hoagland and Timothy A. (Kim) Kiess of Ft. Wayne; 2 brothers, Alvin J. (Ruth) Swegan Jr. of Youngstown, OH and John N. Swegan of Elkhart; sister, Margaret L. Back; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Preceding Cathleen in death are 2 of her children, Jeffery A. Perman and Joice Alexis Perman; 2 brothers, Carl E. Swegan and Earl E. Swegan.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Open Door Christian Fellowship, 51586 Co. Rd 5, Elkhart, IN. Rev. Dennis Chaput will be officiating. A reception will follow the service.

Burial will be in Williamsport Cemetery, Poe, IN at a later date.
