Charles D. Abel

Charles D. Abel, 86, of Decatur, IN, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Union City, IN, on May 17, 1936, the son of the late Henry and Clara (George) Abel. On August 3, 1957, he married Sandra Bickel.

He taught at North Adams Middle School for 37 years, started and led the Bellmont High School Rifle Club for 50 years. Charles was a great man, who touched so many lives. His final joy was playing golf with the Dimers!

Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sandra Abel of Decatur, Indiana; a daughter, Amber (Bill) Carpenter of Decatur, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Jean Abel of Eagle River, Alaska; 3 grandchildren, Jacob (Tracie) Abel, Gabriel (Khafani) Abel, Renn (Ashley) Carpenter; 3 great grandchildren, Cadynce Carpenter, Joseph Carpenter and Donnie Amundson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Cole Abel; a brother, George Abel; a grandson, Travis Abel.

Per Charles wishes, there will be no public services.

Memorials may be made to the Bellmont Rifle Club or Blue Creek Conservation Club.
