David J. Brown

David J. Brown, 84, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Adams Memorial Hospital. David was born in Decatur, IN, on May 27, 1938, the son of the late Dallas H. and Alta T. (Breiner) Brown.

He was a 1956 graduate of Monmouth High School and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked as the production manufacturing manager at Dolco Packaging, where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 2001.

Dave coached little league baseball in Decatur and basketball for Zion Lutheran School. He also played fast pitch softball in the Lutheran League for many years.

He is survived by his friend and mother of his children, Carolyn J. Brown of Decatur; his son, Cary S. (Leslie) Brown of Decatur; his 2 daughters, Jill E. Brown of Ft. Wayne and Jennifer A. (Tim) Mendez of Decatur; 5 grandchildren, Joshua Brown of Indianapolis, Jordan (Stephanie) Brown of Appleton, WI, Jacob (Laura) Brown of Huntington, Hannah (Damon Staub) Mendez of Decatur, and Mason Mendez of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Betty DeVine and Clara Chronister.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, also at the funeral home, with calling 1 hour prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Pastor Eric Lehman will be officiating and burial will take place in the Decatur Cemetery at a later date.
