Dennis C. Garwood

Dennis C. Garwood, 67, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne. Dennis, the son of the late Charles R. and Eileen L. (Krick) Garwood, was born in Decatur on March 4, 1956. On October 10, 1980, he married Virginia L. Snyder.

Dennis was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a 1975 Bellmont H.S. graduate. Dennis enjoyed playing basketball, watching I.U., Indiana Pacers, playing chess, telling jokes, tinkering around, and loved going on family trips. Dennis worked for Silberline for 44 years in maintenance and retired in 2018.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Virginia L. Garwood of Decatur; 8 children, Eric (Kim) Waggoner of Etna Green, IN, Dan (Melissa) Garwood of Clearwater, FL, Christina Alana, Mandy (Ryan) Burelison, Cassie (Marvin) Heimann, Trisha (John) Shifferly, Katie (Heath) Thomas and Emily Helmuth all of Decatur; a brother, John Garwood; 5 sisters, Vanessa (David) Jenkins, Janet Price, Paula Hess, Ruthie Tussing, Jane (Larry) Ross; 30 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Krick; 2 sisters, Gretchen Pasternak and Linda Chrisman.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2023 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home with Reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Ruppert presiding, and visitation will be prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later time.

Memorials may be made to Parkview Oncology or St. Joseph Catholic School.
