Ellen M. (Schumm) Black

Ellen M. Black, 99, of Willshire, OH, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Parkview Randallia Hospice Unit. She was born in Willshire, OH, on February 27, 1925, the daughter of the late Paul E. and Lydia B. (Schumm) Schumm. On December 9, 1951, she married Ray E. Black; after 53 years he preceded her in death on August 2, 2005.

Ellen was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schumm and was a member of the Ladies Aid and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She worked the majority of her life as a homemaker. She also volunteered with the Red Cross, the Van Wert Hospital, and at her voting precinct.

She is survived by her 2 daughters, Jane M. Black of Fort Wayne and Susan K. (Randy) Duly of Monroeville; 2 grandchildren, Anna (fiancé Jesse Geaschel) Duly and Matthew Duly both of Monroeville.

Ellen was preceded in death by her 3 sisters, Mildred M. Franz, Dolores M. Schumm, and Lola T. Schumm.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schumm, with visitation 1 hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Pastor Hayden Folks will be officiating and burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Schumm.

Memorials may be given to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schumm or Wren/Willshire EMS.
