Elsa Zaragoza, 71, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Stillwater Hospice, Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born on June 6, 1951, in Crystal City, Texas, the daughter of the late Tomas Salazar and Guadalupe Serna Salazar. On June 24, 1972, she married Mario Zaragoza.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Elsa was employed by USDA Rural Development, doing clerical work for 25 years before retiring in 2010.
Elsa is survived by her husband of 50 years, Mario Zaragoza of Decatur; 2 sons, Mario Javier Zaragoza of Decatur and Carlos D. (Kristen) Zaragoza of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Ariana M. (Anthony) Sponseller of Decatur; 2 brothers, Hector (Marsha) Salazar of Decatur and Joel (Cindy) Salazar of Cleveland, OH; a sister, Noelia (Robert) Gomez of San Antonio, TX; a brother-in-law, Francisco Pimentel of Decatur; 7 grandchildren, Adrian, Alexis, Elena, Aria & Sofia Zaragoza, Agustin & Cristian Sponseller.
She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Enendina Rosa and Martha Pimentel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation prior from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be presiding and burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
