Gerald L. “Jerry” Jacobs, 76, of Monroeville, IN, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Stillwater Hospice Home. Jerry was born in Zulu, IN, on December 31, 1946, the son of the late Victor U. and Georgiana A. (Jacquay) Jacobs. On April 11, 1970, he married the love of his life, Rose M. Dawson.
A lifelong Catholic, in his childhood Jerry and his family were parishioners of St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church where he attended St. Louis Academy. A 1965 graduate of New Haven High School, Jerry went to on receive a Business Degree from International Business College in 1967. Shortly afterward, he embarked on his life’s passion, a career in funeral service. Jerry began his profession at Klaehn Funeral Home in Ft. Wayne. He received his degree from Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis in 1969, passed his National Boards and received his embalming license that same year, then received his funeral directors license in 1970. Jerry then worked for six years at Mungovan & Sons Mortuary in Ft. Wayne. From 1977 to 1993, Jerry and his wife Rose owned and operated Marquart & Jacobs Funeral Home in Monroeville. He continued in the practice of funeral service, serving the needs of the families in the Monroeville community for two decades until his retirement in 2013. Throughout his long career, Jerry was a member of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association.
Jerry held his faith, his family, and his friends as the most important aspects of his life. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Monroeville. He loved dancing with his wife Rose, spending time with his beloved grandchildren, and getting together with his siblings and extended family. He also enjoyed attending draft horse auctions and horse pulls.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose M. Jacobs of Monroeville; 2 sons, Andrew M. (Melissa) Jacobs of Ft. Wayne and Tony P. (Brandi) Jacobs of Ft. Wayne; 2 grandchildren, Madalyn M. Jacobs of Indianapolis and Jackson D. Jacobs of Evansville; 4 brothers, James F. (Beth) Jacobs of Mount Airy, MD, Robert L. (Alberta) Jacobs of Henderson, NV, William J. (Carol) Jacobs of Woodburn, Donald P. (Diane) Jacobs of Leo; 2 sisters, Nancy J. Reuille of New Haven and Susan K. Stephenson of Ft. Wayne; a sister-in-law, Virginia Jacobs of Belpre, OH.
Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin L. Jacobs.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Monroeville on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, with visitation an hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Father Dennis DiBenedetto will be officiating, and burial will follow in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Masses, St. Rose Church Renovation Fund, or the Monroeville EMS.
