Helen J. Meyer, 91, of Decatur passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the Towne House Retirement Community in Fort Wayne. She was born March 20th,1933 in Portland, IN. The daughter of Charles W. and Naomi J. (Teeple) Mowery.
On September 22, 1954, she married Ned W. Myers. He preceded her in death in 1975.
On July 28, 1990, she married Bernard “Bun” Meyer - “The last good one out there.” They enjoyed nearly 34 years together, until his recent passing at 100 years of age.
Helen lived most of her life in Decatur. She was a proud graduate of the Decatur HS Class of 1951, where she was a cheerleader for the Yellow Jackets. She would entertain her family with her chants and cheers. Helen worked for General Electric, Central Soya, and CTS of Berne. Following her retirement from North American Van Lines, she could be found helping Bun in the family business- Meyer Body Shop.
Helen is survived by one sister- Jean Ketchum of Sarasota, Fl, her children- Mark (Heidi) Myers of Woodstock, GA, Dianna (Wayne) Neukom of Fort Wayne and Ned Myers of Decatur. Seven grandchildren- Joe (Alicia) Neukom, Samuel (Alexandra) Neukom, Matt Neukom, Paul (Jaci) Myers, Olivia Myers, Brooke Myers, and Gwen Myers, and three great granddaughters – Lily Neukom, Ivy Neukom and Zella Neukom.
She was preceded in death by brothers Bill (Esther) Mowery, Walter (Joanne) Mowery and sisters Joan (Arthur) Braun and Claire (Robert) Brown.
At Helen’s request, there will be no visitation. A private family memorial will be held at a future date at the Decatur Cemetery
Preferred memorial is to American Legion Post 43, to continue their saluting those that served us all.
