Helen Jane (Railing) Sills

Helen Jane (Railing) Sills, 96, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Adams Woodcrest. She was born in Jay County on Sept. 19, 1929, the daughter of the late Forest Jacob and Mary Alice (Garner) Railing.

Helen spent most of her life in Decatur, IN. She graduated from Pleasant Mills High School in 1948. She married Ralph D. Sills on Dec. 10, 1950. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1998.

Helen was employed by Holthouse-on-the-Highway and then retired from Richards Restaurant Inc. after 35 years of service working in Decatur, Fort Wayne and New Haven. She loved spending time with her family after retirement. They all got together for Sunday dinners as often as possible which was a great joy to her.

She is survived by three children: Mari (Troy) Hart of Decatur, Indiana, Shari (Larry) Simpkins of New Haven, Indiana and Daniel (Rhonda) Sills of Guyton, Georgia. Her grandchildren are Tina Mendez & Staci Barkley both of Decatur, Indiana, and Amanda (Brad) Meyer of Poe, Indiana. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren:

Aaron, Sonia, Jesse (Emily Warren) and Gianna Mendez, Devin Kershner(Brittany Groves), Isla & Rhys Meyer. Helen also shared her life with many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Morton, Alton, Joseph & Gordon; two

sisters, Anna (Vonnie) Barker and Virginia (Ginny) Beer.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at the Decatur Cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be made to Riley Hospital for Children or the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo.
