James M. “Jim” “Bugs” Rumschlag, 78, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Adams Woodcrest, as the result of complications from a recent surgery. He was born on June 6, 1944, in Decatur, IN, the son of the late Robert J. and Lucille M. (Miller) Rumschlag. On July 13, 1963, he married Patricia Gerardot, she preceded him in death after 49 years together, on September 8, 2012.
He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a 1962 graduate of Decatur (St. Joseph) Catholic High School.
Bugsy worked for Bunge and retired in 2010 after 37 years of employment. He was member of Knights of Columbus Msgr. J. J. Seimetz Council 864 and the Loyal Order of Moose Adams Lodge 1311.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Garner and Sara (Robert Carper) Anderson; son, Christopher Rumschlag all of Decatur; 2 brothers, Donald (Marsha) Rumschlag of Ft. Wayne and David (Kelly) Rumschlag of Decatur; a sister, Carol Bailey of Decatur; 8 grandchildren, Wyatt Rumschlag, Holly (Nathan) Haines, Heather Garner, Skyeler Rumschlag, Camden (Christy) Rumschlag, Gianna Bodle, Annie Carper, and Rawnie Carper; 3 great grandchildren, Daxton Haines, Mariah Haines, and Brody Haines; 2 step great grandchildren, Ashley and Jared Baker.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Rumschlag on February 9, 2014.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior to the service, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Father David Ruppert will be presiding and burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic School.
