James K. “Kevin” Werst, 66, of Monroe, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at his residence. Kevin was born in Decatur, on April 3, 1957, the son of James T. Werst and Linda (Pugh) Lautzenheiser. In January of 1985, Kevin married Terry Boxell.
Kevin worked for INDOT as a Traffic Tech. He owned and operated Kevin’s Body Shop. He was also a Blue Creek Township Trustee and a 4-H leader for the Blue Creek Sodbusters.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Linda Lautzenheiser of Decatur; his wife, Terry Werst of Monroe; 3 children, Tonna (Chris) Slusher, Josh (Sasha) Werst and Jamie Bodle all of Decatur; 2 step children, Robert “Joe” Manor of Portland, and Amanda Vaugh of Decatur; his brothers and sisters, Kerry (James) Werst of Indianapolis, Stacy Lautzenheiser of Fort Wayne, Scott (Toni) Lautzenheiser of Monroe, Kristi Schaden of Monroe, Teresa (David) Kreischer of Van Wert, OH and April Burns of Decatur; 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his biological father, James T. Werst; his father, Larry Lautzenheiser; sister, Starla Werst and sons-in-law, Phil Bodle and Christopher Copeland.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023 also at the funeral home with calling 1 hour prior to services from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Kevin’s wife Terry Werst. Burial will follow in Tricker Cemetery.
