Janet L. (Grill) McCrory

Janet L. Rieder McCrory, 96, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Adams Woodcrest. She was born in Van Wert County, OH, on September 2, 1927, the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Norma G. (Tindall) Grill.

She was a 1945 graduate of Van Wert High School. In 1949, she graduated from Bowling Green State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Foods and Nutrition. She completed her dietetic internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL, and was a member of the American Dietetic Association. Her dietetic career covered over 50 years as a dietician, in hospitals, nursing homes and the 7 County Elderly Nutrition Program, with its headquarters in Lima, OH.

Janet married Jules C. Rieder, Jr., of Clinton, TN, in 1958, and from that union a daughter and son were born. In 1993, she married Merl H. Trutwig of Fort Wayne, IN, he died in 1999. In 2001, she married F. Rex McCrory of Decatur, IN, he preceded her in death in 2005.

During her tenure in Decatur, IN, she became active in various clubs and organizations and was a lifelong member of the John Paul Historical Society in Paulding, OH.

Janet is survived by a daughter, Jule L. Godsey of Markle, IN; 5 very close friends, Carol Marshand, Mary Friedt, Carolyn Sprunger, Heidi Trentadue and Nancy Birch all of Decatur.

She was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Jules C. Rieder III, in 1962.

Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in the Porter Auditorium of Adams Woodcrest.

A Graveside Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. also on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in Old Concordia Cemetery in Fort Wayne, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Leader Dogs For the Blind, 1039 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307 or Worship Anew – Lutheran Ministries Media, 5 Martin Luther Dr., Fort Wayne, IN 46825.

The family requests that any ornaments, keepsakes, or flower arrangements be omitted.
