Janice K. (Titus) Geels

Janice K. Geels, 86, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Adams Woodcrest. Janice was born in Decatur, IN, on August 13, 1939, the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley and Margaret Rose (Thomas) Titus. On October 24, 1959, she married James L. “Jim” Geels and after 64 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on July 23, 2024.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Janice was a dedicated wife & mother, who loved her family and church very much.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Kristine) Geels of Monroe, IN, Laurie (Eugene) Grote of Decatur, IN, Leann (Gary) Granell of Loudon, TN, Erica (Mark) Dieden of Palatine, IL, Melissa (James) Blazek of Lake Zurich, IL, Matthew (Angela) Geels of Kansas City, MO; a sister-in-law, Mary Titus of Decatur, IN; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.

Janice was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Geels; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Geels; a brother, Thomas D. Titus; a sister, Patricia A. Gerber.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation prior to the Mass from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father Jacob Runyon will be presiding and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
