John W. Bergman Sr., 96, of Ohio City, Ohio, formerly of Monroe, Indiana, passed away at his daughter's residence on Sunday, December 29, 2024. He was born on September 21, 1928, in Bryant, IN, the son of the late Oren E. and Minnie H. (Huey) Bergman. On December 24, 1951, John married Geraldine M. Nevil, she preceded him in death on September 3, 2016.
John formerly worked for Franklin Electric as a tester and retired September 1, 1989. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43, Franklin Electric Retirees Club and Adams County Coin Club. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was a kind and generous man who was always there to help anyone that needed help. John built many many wood items for his family and friends. Everyone that met him said “He’s just too cute.”
He is survived by his 2 daughters, Barbara E. (Michael) Beery of Willshire, OH and Karen A. (Mark) Brake of Ohio City, OH; 9 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren and 1 on the way, and 1 great-great-great grandchildren.
John was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Michael Bergman, John Bergman Jr., a grandson, Steven Patrick Bergman, and a great grandson, Mackayne Beery, 4 sisters and 6 brothers.
Visitation will held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, followed by a 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service, with Pastor Ernie Suman officiating. Burial will follow in the Westlawn Cemetery in Geneva, with Military Graveside rites by American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Memorials may be made to Wren Fire/EMS or American Legion Post 43.
