John W. Johnson

John W. Johnson, 91, Decatur, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Adams Memorial Hospital.  He was born February 9, 1932, to the late Della (Longenberger) and Benoit P. Johnson. He married Annabelle Bebout on November 3, 1951. She passed away May 28, 1994. John later remarried the late Joan Workinger on October 4, 1997. She passed away December 31, 2014.

He was a graduate of Pleasant Mills High School. John was a member of Pleasant Mills United Methodist Church. John spent his life as a dairy and grain farmer and worked as a Pioneer Seed Salesman.  He drove school bus for Adams Central for over 26 years and was St. Marys Township Trustee for 12 years.                           

Among survivors are his children-Don Johnson, Jim Johnson, Deb (Randy) Landis, and Randy Johnson; siblings-Dick (Nyla) Johnson and Pat Jackson; five grandchildren: Nathan (Lindsay) Landis, Matt (Derin) Landis, Missy (Andy) Henry, Jon (Meghan) Johnson and Megan (Cody) Clouse; 12 great grandchildren: Kenli Landis, Ezra, Trace and Jude Henry, Briggs, Urban and Jovie Landis, John, Logan and Parker Johnson, Easton and baby Clouse; and Joan Workinger Johnson’s children and families: Janet (Mark) Andrews, Dan (Lori) Workinger, Lori (Ked) Snyder and Micki (John) Schultz.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Johnson; a daughter, Susie Johnson; siblings Bob (Rosalyn) Johnson, LouAnn (Roy) Hirschy, and Glenda (Don) Holloway; brothers-in-law, Larry Jackson; and step-daughter Sharon Fisher.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with pastor Ernie Suman officiating. Burial will take place in M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne, IN.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday May 3, 2023 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Preferred memorials are to Adams County 4-H.
