Jose L. Martinez

Jose L. Martinez, 70, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at his residence. He was born on December 1, 1951, in Jalisco, Mexico to the late Jesus and Celia (Leon) Martinez. On March 13, 1972, Jose married Silvia Cuevas.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Jose worked for Decatur Casting for 22 years.

Jose is survived by his wife of 50 years, Silvia Martinez of Decatur; a son, Adalberto (Cari) Martinez of Angola, IN; 2 daughters, Ana (Shawn) Liter of Decatur and Maria (Taylor Marcum) Schiebel of Ft. Wayne; 8 siblings, Teresa Vera, Carlos Martinez, Juana Gutierrez, Raul Martinez, Elias Martinez, Martin Martinez, Armando Martinez, and Celia Ruiz; 6 grandchildren, Bailey Liter, Caitlin Martinez, Hannah Martinez, Corbin Schiebel, Lawson Marcum and Landin Marcum.

Jose was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Antonio Martinez and Mario Martinez.

Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior to Mass from 9:00-10:00 in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall.  Father David Ruppert will be presiding.

An Inurnment will be held at a later time in Parroquia de San Jose de Cortazar, Guanjuato Mexico.
