Kent D. Koons

Kent D. Koons, 88, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Adams Woodcrest. He was born on March 10, 1935, in Leiters Ford, Indiana, the son of the late Claude S. and E. Regine (Dowty) Koons. On May 7, 1955, he married Jean A. Kirchhofer.

He was a member of the former First United Methodist Church in Decatur, currently known as Grace First Community Church, where he served as a Trustee.

Kent was a 1953 graduate of Decatur High School and attended Purdue University of Fort Wayne. He graduated from the G.E. Manufacturing Training Program and the G.E. Apprentice School as a Tool & Die Maker, retiring in 1997 from Chrysler Corp and Sinter Metals of Van Wert, Ohio.

He also served as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts and enjoyed woodworking.

Kent is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Koons of Decatur; a son, Gregory K. Koons of Arvada, CO; 2 daughters, Jill S. Koons of Vernon Hills, IL, Linda J. (Mike) Engelhard of Crested Butte, CO; a sister, Lynne (Larry) Colvin of Fort Wayne; 2 granddaughters, Erica Engelhard of Westminster, CO, Mallory Engelhard of Chicago, IL.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home with visitation 1 hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Pastor Steve Austin will be officiating and burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, in Ossian, IN.

Memorials can be made to Grace First Community Church or Stillwater Hospice.
