Kerry Kauffman Obituary

Kerry D. Kauffman, 71, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Decatur, IN, on June 10, 1953, the son of the late Gorman D. and Margaret O. (Scott) Kauffman. He married Vikki R. Shinabery on August 25, 1984.

He graduated from Adams Central in 1971. Kerry was a lifelong farmer in Adams County and worked along side his dad and son. He also worked for D. Luginbill Excavating for over a decade.

Kerry served his country in the Air National Guard from 1971 – 1977. He also served on the board of Mutual Fire Insurance of French Township for 32 years. He always enjoyed being around his friends.

He fought a hard long battle with cancer for 9 years. “Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all.”

Kerry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vikki Kauffman; his 3 children, Kyle (Stephany) Kauffman, Kara (Josh) Stetler, and Kendra Kauffman all of Decatur; 2 grandsons, Griffin and Maverick Kauffman; brother, Leon (Cindy) Kauffman; sister, Jerine (John) Fahncke.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Bud and Helen Shinabery.

Private Graveside Service held in the Decatur Cemetery, with military honors rendered by the American Legion Adams Post 43 Color Guard.

Memorials may be made to Stillwater Hospice or to the Berne American Legion Post 468.
