Leonard J. Lengerich, 94, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Heritage Pointe of Huntington. He was born in Decatur, IN, on May 8, 1929, the son of the late Leo H. and Mary (Heimann) Lengerich. On October 18, 1952, he married Leona L. Rauch and after 61 years she preceded him in death on March 7, 2014.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a 1947 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School.
Leonard worked as a lifelong farmer in Adams County.
He is survived by 3 sons, Leo (Karen) Lengerich of Monroe, Dave Lengerich of Columbia City, and Greg (Jackie) Lengerich of Huntington; a daughter-in-law, Pam Lengerich and son-in-law, Frank Brinkman; 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; 4 great-great granchildren.
Leonard was preceded in death by his son; Mike Lengerich; his daughter, Cathy Brinkman; daughter-in-law, Mary Lengerich; 2 brothers, Raymond Lengerich (in infancy) and Hubert Lengerich; 2 sisters, Anna Staub and Clara Miller.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be presiding and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Masses or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana (in memory of Mike Lengerich & Cathy Brinkman).
