Louis Rumschlag Obituary

Louis R. Rumschlag, 93, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at St. Anne Home in Ft. Wayne. He was born in Decatur, IN, on July 5, 1932, the son of the late Lewis H. and Clara A. (Heimann) Rumschlag. On October 15, 1955, he married Loretta R. Rauch and after 61 years she preceded him in death on July 19, 2017.

He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a 1950 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in West Germany.

Louis was a Diamond Die Finisher, working for Hoosier Wire Die for 40 years and then owned and operated Prestige Wire Die for a decade, before retiring in 2007.

He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Brian) Andrews of Decatur; 3 sons, Denny (Becky) Rumschlag of Leo, IN, Dr. Tony (Hella) Rumschlag of Northfield, OH, and Dave (Peggy) Rumschlag of Kendallville, IN; 9 grandchildren, Kyle (Rachel) Andrews, Craig (Nancy) Rumschlag, Amy (Kory) Hart, Adam Rumschlag, Andrew (Hayley) Rumschlag, Jeffrey Rumschlag, David Tyler (Colleen Polit) Rumschlag, Matt (Jackie) Rumschlag, and Tiffany (Clayton) Barrows; 9 great grandchildren, Olivia Rumschlag, Brecken Rumschlag, Lauren Hart, Kaiden Hart, Serena Rumschlag, Rosie Rumschlag, Caleb Barrows, Kenzie Barrows, Adalyn Rumschlag; 2 sisters, Mary Catherine Rumschlag and Jean Rumschlag; a brother, Tom Rumschlag.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Wayne Andrews; 4 brothers and 7 sisters.

Visitation will be held on Friday November 21, 2025, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at Adams Woodcrest Porter Auditorium and from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 4:40 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Jacob Runyon presiding. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall.

Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites rendered by the American Legion Adams Post 43.

Memorials may be made to A.C.C.F. St. Joe Tuition and Education Fund.
