M. Charles Eckhart, 71, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away Monday, October 31, 2022, at Adams Memorial Hospital. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on September 8, 1951, the son of Ivan C. and Jessie (Cousino) Eckhart. On February 14, 1970, he married Susan K. Gerber.
He graduated from Adams Central School, Class of ’69, worked for Central Soya for 25 years and retired in 1995. Charles then started Eckhart Woodworking and became the Owner of S & M Wood Products, since 2000.
Charles was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan Eckhart of Decatur; a son, Douglas (Juli Paini) Eckhart of Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany; 2 daughters, Julie Liston of Maize, Kansas and Carole Hostetter of Hoover, Alabama; 2 brothers; 6 sisters; 7 grandchildren, Alex & Nathan Eckhart, Paige & Abigail Liston, Cayla (Dan) Johnson, Clayton (Hannah) Hostetter and Caden Hostetter; 4 great grandchildren, Anna, Madelyn & Charlotte Johnson and Ellory Hostetter.
Charles was preceded in death by a brother & a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2022, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with a visitation 2 hours prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., in the Parish Hall. Father Lee Allen Fortin will be presiding, and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
