Marilou Hill Obituary

Marilou (Uhrick) Hill passed away the morning of November 25, 2022, with her family at her side.

The daughter of Martha (Reppert) and Paul Uhrick, Marilou was born in Decatur, Indiana, on September 22, 1940. Throughout her 82 years, Marilou often expressed her love for autumn and it is only fitting her life began and ended during her favorite season.

Marilou grew up in Decatur; after graduating from Adams Central High School in 1958, she moved to Denver, Colorado, where she worked as a keypunch operator feeding codes to early computers. Upon her return to Decatur in 1963, Marilou started working at CTS in Berne where she met Jerry Hill. The couple married on July 2, 1965.

As a young mother, Marilou learned cake decorating and made a name for herself creating wedding cakes. After the family moved to St. Clair Shores, Michigan, Marilou continued her baking, selling dozens of decorated cookies every holiday season.

While in Michigan, Marilou was active in her local United Church of Christ congregation where she was a member of Consistory. She also served multiple years as a President of the school’s PTO. Aside from her volunteer work, Marilou also aided and supported Jerry’s small business. In later years, Marilou continued her creativity working with the church’s Crafty Ladies generating funds through sales of their many creations.

Marilou and Jerry returned to Decatur in 2018 where they rejoined Zion United Church of Christ. They spent many hours since the move supporting the activities of their numerous great-nephews and -nieces.

Marilou is survived by Jerry L. Hill, her husband of 57 years; their son Doug (Carol) Hill of Macomb, MI; their daughter Christine (Bashar) Hoque of Grandville, MI; their grandchildren Helena and Jake Hill, and Rohan and Rahul Hoque; and her brother, Kenneth (Sandy) Uhrick, of Decatur. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jane (Ron) Gerber, and infant brother Ned Uhrick.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Zion United Church of Christ, with calling a half hour prior from 10:30-11 a.m. Pastor Randy Rossman will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Decatur’s Zion United Church of Christ or the Friends of the Adams Public Library System - Decatur.
