Melanie Rae Beer, 48, of Decatur, IN passed away at Lutheran Hospital on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Melanie was born on February 8, 1974 in Laporte, Indiana to George W. and Cheryl Denise (Bunton) Meyers. On March 23, 2002, Melanie married Samuel Beer.
Melanie was a graduated from South Central High School 1992 and graduated from Anderson University with degrees in Social Work and Psychology in 1996, became a Certified Natural Health Professional in 2006, earned a Doctor of Naturopathy degree from Trinity College of Natural Health in 2007. She continued her education in alternative therapies at The Upledger Institute; owned and operated her own alternative healthcare practice for over 20 years in which she offered clients a variety of treatments and recommendations. Her love and care for her clients was evident in her approach to treat each one individually, regardless of where they were on their healthcare journey.
Besides operating her own business, she was a stay-at-home mom and worked extremely hard at homeschooling her three daughters, providing them a firm foundation in their faith in Jesus Christ was central to everything she did. She was regular in worshipping her Savior at Hope Missionary Church in Bluffton; at Hope, she spent some time volunteering in the Children's ministry and was excitedly anticipating when she could return to that service. Prior to attending Hope Missionary Church, she led the AWANA program for several years at Fellowship Missionary Church in Ft. Wayne, where she worked tirelessly to ensure the seeds of God's Word was planted into as many children's hearts as possible. And Melanie did do a Mission trip to Haiti.
Melanie loved the colors of fall, dreaming of someday seeing the fall colors of New England. With joy, she planned many camping trips for her family. Growing up, her family camped all over the United States and she wanted her children to experience the natural wonders of this great land. Her favorite family camping trips included Rocky Mountain National Park and Mount Rushmore, an all-encompassing trip to Texas, and the upper peninsula of Michigan.
She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her family, tinkering with new recipes and preserving fresh garden produce for future use all while encouraging and helping her daughters to participate and learn.
She was the driving force behind Beer family traditions such as cutting down their own Christmas trees (and then hitting the Chinese buffet afterward) every year, trying a new soup every New Year's Day, coming up with a new snack or treat for the Super Bowl, and eating powdered donuts in bed with the family on Thanksgiving morning while watching the Thanksgiving Day parade. She looked forward to hosting a Thanksgiving gathering each year, always certain to invite someone who might have otherwise spent that day alone.
Melanie wanted to model love, service, and leadership to her daughters- not just talk to them about it: together they volunteered at the Van Wert Animal Shelter and Forgotten Children Ministry, and sponsored children overseas.
She grew up on a farm from which she participated in many years of 4H, even winning Grand Champion swine carcass.
A childhood core was to take out the bathroom garbage can...frequently completed with some element of protest.
An intelligent play-on-circumstance witty humor easily seen in her Facebook posts.
Sacrificial servanthood angled toward helping people with physical needs...loved out professionally through her massage therapy business, and closer to home where she sacrificially committed to caring for her aging parents.
She had a get'er done approach to completing duties...jumped in without hesitation and moved things along!
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Samuel Beer of Decatur; 3 daughters, Hannah, Becca and Jordyn Beer at home; a brother, Matthew (Karol) Meyers of Dripping Springs, Texas; 4 nieces and 7 nephews.
Melanie was preceded in death by her infant son Samuel Melvin II on 9/23/2005, her father, George, on January 11, 2022 and her mother, Cheryl on August 10, 2021.
