Paul Spangler Obituary

Paul E. Spangler, 89, former lifelong resident of Decatur, IN, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville, IN. Paul was born on April 1, 1934, in Decatur, IN, the son of the late Anthony C. and Evelyn Spangler. On October 10, 1953, Paul married Anna Marie Everett and after 60 years together she preceded him in death on August 7, 2014.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. He was a Master Mechanic and was employed by Schwartz Ford in Decatur and Zurcher’s in Monroe.

Paul enjoyed trap shooting and won the Indiana Trap Shooting Competition. Paul also loved riding his motorcycle, traveling, and listening to music.

He is survived by his children, David (Shelly) Spangler, Daniel (Dee) Spangler, Janet Ann Spangler, Edward (April) Spangler, Teresa (Jeff) Counterman, and Amy (Garry) Malott; a sister, Gloria Seilger; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Paul was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Wilhelm and his granddaughter, Melissa Mowery.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation prior from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Father Dave Ruppert will be presiding and burial will immediately follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, rural Bobo.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
