Robert L. “Bob” McMillen, 76, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Decatur on October 22, 1946, the only son of the late John W. “Bill” McMillen and Mary Ruth (Bebout) McMillen. On July 23, 1966, he married Linda D. Roe.
He was a member of Salem Community Church and was a 1964 graduate of Adams Central High School. He worked for International Harvester in Ft. Wayne until 1983 and then went on to work at Navistar from 1993 and retired in 2007. His entire life he also worked as farmer on his family farm, this was his main love.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves, serving a tour during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 207 in Willshire, OH. Bob and Linda were members of the State Line Motorcycle Club and were regulars at the farmer’s table at Becky’s Restaurant.
He coached Little League Baseball and enjoyed watching his granddaughter’s sporting events. He missed his longtime friend, his dog Rufus. Above all he loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Linda McMillen of Decatur; his children, Rex (Tami) McMillen and Jodi (Chris) Harper both of Decatur; 2 granddaughters, Mariah (Aden) Feasel of Decatur and Meghan (Quinn) Dailey of Bryant; step granddaughter, Cheyann (Daniel) Goodin of Virginia; 5 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, with visitation 1 hour prior from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. also at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. Pastor James Compton will be officiating and burial will immediately follow in Backesto (Springhill) Cemetery, rural Berne. Military Graveside Rites will be rendered by the American Legion Post 207 Color Guard.
