Rodney L. Allen, 76, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Rodney was born on March 20, 1946 in Spokane, Washington to the late Herman E. and Betty L. (Barnes) Allen. On December 26, 1964, Rodney married Linda L. Ross.
He worked for International Harvester in Fort Wayne and transferred to Springfield, OH, where he retired from in 1999, after 30 years of service. Rodney was also a Union Steward for the U.A.W. Local 402.
Rodney was an avid softball player and was inducted in the Decatur Men’s Softball Hall of Fame. For a decade he coached Little League Baseball in Pleasant Mills and Pony League in Decatur. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, pontooning, and riding his Honda Goldwing.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda L. Allen of Decatur, son, Brandan J. Allen of Decatur; 2 daughters, Sherri L. Lewis of Ft. Wayne and Jacalyn S. (Charles) Hill of WV; brother, Gary Spring of Washington; 2 sisters, Bunny (Dustin) Letellier of Gig Harbor, WA and Brenda Ross of Billings, MT; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by twin brothers, Mark and Mike Spring.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m.Wednesday, April 20, 2022 also at the funeral home, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Pastor Ernie Suman will be officiating and burial will immediately follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, rural Decatur.
Preferred memorials are to A.C.C.F. Alzheimer’s Angel Fund.
