Rodolfo L. Nunez

Rodolfo “Rudy” Luz Nuñez, 49, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 in Elkhart County, Indiana, from a work-related accident. Rudy was born on December 1, 1973 in Winchester, Indiana to Jose and Yolanda M. (Esparza) Nuñez. On May 31, 2003, Rudy married Joanne Tonner.

Rudy attended St. Mark’s Church Decatur. He was a graduate of Bellmont High School. He worked for Miles Stone Construction as a heavy machine operator.

Rudy loved his wife, kids, and grandkids so much. He was a man that lived by the motto “actions speak louder than words.” He showed us all love every day. Anything from a simple text saying have a good day or just a heart. He did little things like making a me a pot of coffee in the morning and he does not even drink coffee. He loved doing projects together. Like right now we were working on the front porch together. He was so strong both physically and emotionally.

Rudy is survived by his wife of 20 years, Joanne Nuñez of Decatur; son, Landon Nuñez; daughters, Lydia Nuñez, Laina (Nuñez) (Deven) Frost, Elizabeth Nuñez and Cheerikee Melton; grandchildren, Dmitri Nuñez, Dean Nuñez, Rowan Frost and 1 on the way; his parents, Jose and Yolanda Nuñez; father-in-law, Arlan Tonner; mother-in-law, Susan (Sue) Tonner; brothers and sisters, Robert (Candy) Esparza, Jose (Helen) Nuñez, Gilbert (Irene) Brito, Sarah (Shaun) Meyer, Kateline Nuñez and Raul Nuñez; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jake (Natalie) Tonner and Elica Oliver.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ollie Joe Nuñez.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at St. Mark’s Church Decatur. Pastor Samuel Padgett officiating. Calling will be 1 hour prior to service from 9:00-10:00 at the church.

Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Elizabeth Nuñez Education Fund.
