Roger Spencer Obituary

Roger A. Spencer, 81, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at his residence. He was born on April 21, 1944, in Decatur, the son of Hobart and Vera (Affolder) Spencer. On June 4, 1966, he married Charlotte E. Gephart, she preceded him in death after 50 years of marriage, on March 11, 2017.

He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1962 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur. He served in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Belgium.

Roger was a member of the Decatur Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. 571, where he was a Past Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne and the Mizpah Shrine. He was also a member of the American Legion Adams Post 43.

Roger worked in Fleet Service at North American Van Lines in Fort Wayne for 30 years and CME – Mitsuba in Monroeville for 17 years.

He is survived by his son, R. Scott (Andrea) Spencer of Monroeville, IN; his daughter, Stephanie (Robert) Doutt of Warren, IN; a brother, Rex (Jill) Spencer of Bluffton, IN; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Spencer.

A Masonic Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home by the Decatur Masonic Lodge and at 5:30 p.m. Military Honors will be rendered by the American Legion Adams Post 43 Color Guard. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
