Thomas Zeser Obituary

Thomas Joseph “Sid” Zeser, 90, a lifelong resident of Decatur, IN, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Adams Woodcrest. He was born on June 27, 1935, in Decatur the son of the late Daniel J. and Marie E. (Gass) Zeser.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a 1954 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Council 864. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion Adams Post 43 and the Loyal Order of Moose Adams Lodge 1311.

In 1927, his dad built the old Sun Set Park on the family’s property and Sid worked there for 20 years until it was sold and was renamed the Star Lite. Sid loved working around his home and making something out of nothing. His favorite sayings were, “Would you believe they were going to throw this away” and “Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!”

For 35 years he worked for the GE plant in Decatur. He was a Past Vice President of the GE Quarter Century Club in Ft. Wayne and Decatur. He was active in the Union and served as a Union Steward for many years. He was also the founder of the local GE retirement party in Decatur.

Sid was loyal New York Yankees fan since 1947. He was also an avid Purdue and Notre Dame fan.

He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly A. Zeser of Decatur; a son, James D. (Stephanie) Zeser of Elkhart; former wife, Judith A. Zeser of Decatur; 3 grandchildren, Katelyn Zeser, Liliana Zeser, and Christian Zeser.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly J. Zeser; a brother, Robert Zeser; 2 sisters, Joan Fife and Janet Cochran; sister-in-law, Sherian Zeser; brother-in-law, James Cochran Sr.

Out of respect for Tom’s wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral.

Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to A.C.C.F. Kelly J. Zeser Scholarship Fund or St. Joseph Catholic School.
