Timothy R. DesJean

Timothy R. DesJean, 67, of Decatur, IN, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, June 25, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Decatur, IN, on December 16, 1958, the son of the late Richard K. and Julianne (Meyer) DesJean.

Tim was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and attended St. Joseph Catholic School.  He then went on to graduate from Bellmont High School in 1977.

He had a passion for traveling and worked many years as a self-employed corporate travel agent through Carlson-Wagonlit Travel Inc. and also subcontracted through other international companies.  

After he retired and 35 years of living in California & Arizona, he returned to his roots in Decatur in 2024 and enjoyed reconnecting with family and friends. He spent his free time remodeling his home and volunteering for the St. Vincent de Paul Society Thrift Store.

Tim served as the DesJean family genealogist and was committed to preserving his family’s legacy and history.

He above all loved his family and was especially adored by his nieces and nephews, even though he lived away for so long he maintained a close relationship with all of them.

Tim never met a stranger, his warmth left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered, he had a generous heart, and his love for life will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by 2 brothers, Paul F. (Cindy) DesJean and R. Chris (Sue) DesJean both of Decatur, IN; 4 sisters, Michelle M. (Joel) Knerr of Convoy, OH, Kate M. (Curtis) Rash of Ft. Wayne, Steph M. (Jeff) Sanderson, and Amy M. (Tim) Weaver both of Decatur, IN; 16 nieces & nephews; 37 great nieces & nephews and 1 great niece on-the-way; his beloved dog, Eddie.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Father Jacob Runyon will be presiding. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the Mass from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall (enter through doors on 4th Street). Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or PAWS of Adams County.
