Velma Irene Weaver, 88, of Berne, former lifelong resident of Monroe, IN, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Swiss Village. She was born in Monroe, IN, on March 19, 1936, the daughter of the late Sylvan and Lydia (Brunner) Strahm. On July 7, 1956, she married James Weaver.
She was a lifelong member of St. Luke Church. She enjoyed camping, boating, water skiing and western square dancing. Velma loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a homemaker and worked for CTS Corp. for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jim Weaver of Monroe; 2 daughters, Sharon (Bob) Frank and Donna Weaver Brite both of Decatur; sister-in-law, Betsy Strahm of Bluffton; 2 grandchildren, Julie (Craig) Beer of Berne and Andy (Kirstie) Brite of Decatur; 6 great grandchildren, Karter Brite, Brantley Brite, Charlotte Brite, Ryan Beer, Logan Beer and Lydia Beer.
Velma was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Strahm and an infant sister.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024 also at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Wertenberger officiating. Calling will also be from 10:00-10:30 a.m. prior to service. Burial will follow in Ray Cemetery in Monroe.
Preferred memorials are to St. Luke Church or A.C.C.F. Angel Alzheimer’s Fund.
