Vern A. Daenens, 78, of Wolcottville, IN, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born in Alexandria, Virginia, on June 9, 1945, the son of the late Albert A. and Helen (Jossin) Daenens. Vern was engaged to his beloved best friend & fiancé Sherry Delancey.
He served his country in the United States Navy for 7 years and 5 months and studied with the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit. He served aboard the USS George C. Marshall during the Vietnam War. He then finished his service on the USS Fulton. Vern received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Vern was an inventor in Fabrication Engineering. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, woodworking, collecting antiques, and repairing and refurbishing clocks. Vern was also a talented musician and played the organ, keyboard and electric accordion.
He was a member of New Life Apostolic Church in Kendallville, IN. He was also a member of the American Legion in Rome City Post 381 and Lagrange Post 215, Lions Club International in Wolcottville, and the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan.
Vern is survived by his children, Dawn (Al) Naylor, Kirt (Lynell) Daenens, Sherese (Kevin) Fortriede, Dean (Cathy) Daenens, Jason (Tyler) Daenens; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his dog, Copper.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sheryl Meservey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
