William J. Hartman, 97, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Adams Woodcrest. He was born July 19, 1925, in Adams County. He married Dorothea M. Kahlert on April 18, 1959, she survives.
Bill was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and graduated from Decatur Catholic High School in 1945. He was the school pianist, was also an avid Hi-Fi enthusiast and built many pieces of Hi-Fi equipment.
He was employed at General Electric for 35 years and was a long-time supervisor.
Bill is survived by his 3 children, Sr. Dorothea of the Blessed Sacrament, O.C.D. (Regina Hartman) of Des Plaines, IL, Renata Christine Copsey of Broken Arrow, OK, Matthew (Shannon) Hartman of Fishers, IN; 2 brothers-in-law, Alfons (Nancy) Kahlert of Decatur, IN and Georg Kahlert of Springfield, OH; 5 grandchildren, Heather (Copsey) (Will) Warren, Brian (Emily Brown) Copsey, Hannah Copsey, Katelyn Hartman and Emily Hartman; 5 great grandchildren, Kate, Jane & Henry Warren and Blakely & Teagan Copsey; several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Bernard and Josef Kahlert; sisters-in-law, Edeltraud Kahlert, Ann Kahlert and Hilda Kahlert; a son-in-law, Michael Scott Copsey; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Hawfield) Hartman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Ruppert presiding. A Reciting of the Holy Rosary will be held at 9:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall, with visitation to follow until the service time from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
