William E. "Billy" Helms

William E. “Billy” Helms, 66, of Decatur, IN passed away on April 17, 2022 at his residence. Billy was born on February 7, 1956 in Bluffton to the son of the late William C. and Wanda (Bunker) Helms.

In his youth he was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He loved riding his Harley Davidson and was a founding member of the local chapter of the Barbarians Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his significant other, Laurie (Velez) Smitley of Decatur; two sons, Jason Mathews of Decatur, Jesse Helms of Troy, OH; two daughters, Lindsey Helms of Troy, OH and Kasey Antoine; two sisters, Tonni Murphy of Decatur and Penni Helms of Ft. Wayne; 11 grandchildren.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 with calling 1 hour prior from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with Father David Ruppert officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery immediately following services.
