William Ray Hood

William Ray Hood, lovingly known to his family as "Poppy," passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, at the age of 97. He was born on April 17, 1929, and lived a life defined by service, hard work, adventure, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Ray proudly served his country during the Korean War as a paratrooper and courier for General Dwight D. Eisenhower. His military service reflected the courage, discipline, and dedication that would remain hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

A master carpenter by trade and retiring from National Standard, Ray took immense pride in his craftsmanship and the legacy he built with his hands. Whether creating something from scratch or lending a helping hand, he was known for his skill, determination, and strong work ethic.

Outside of work, Ray embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid traveler who loved riding his Gold Wing motorcycle, eventually visiting 49 of the 50 states. He enjoyed fishing, playing poker, competing in horseshoe tournaments, and proudly earned the title of Florida State Horseshoe Champion in 2010.

Above all, Ray cherished his family. He is survived by his daughter, Regina Wolfe; his son, Alan Hood (Kim); son-in-law, Gary Burgess and his sister, Judy Reynolds (Chris). He was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Alta (Low) Hood; his daughter, Vicky Burgess; his son, Steve Hood and son-in-law, Larry Wolfe, as well as his parents and siblings. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of strength, resilience, and love.

Ray will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, generous heart, remarkable stories, and the example he set through a life well lived. His family and friends will forever treasure the memories they shared with him, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
